GeoFoam is an EPS foam (expanded polystyrene) produced as large block insulation
used in geotechnical engineering applications, some of which are listed below. Sometimes referred to as geo technical eps, GeoFoam has very low density,
good insulation, low hydraulic conductivity, as well as strength and deformation
properties that complement soil behavior. GeoFoam accelerates civil construction, expands possible solutions for difficult soil problems (e.g. retaining structure for slope stabilization), has excellent load distribution characteristics, and reduces construction costs. Dyplast Products can provide material
in block insulation up to 20' long, 48' wide, and 40' thick or any smaller size or customized shape. GeoFoam is available in a range of standard EPS densities for an array of GeoFoam applications. View our standard EPS physical properties.
Applications include:
Slope Stabilization
Geotechnical engineers have long valued the advantages of lightweight fill to reduce mass and associated gravitational driving forces. EPS GeoFoam is up to 50 times less massive than other lightweight fills or earth retaining structure.
Embankment
The use of GeoFoam does not require the pre-loading
and removal normally associated with embankment construction on soft ground.
Side slopes at 2:1 or even in vertical finish can be developed because
GeoFoam imposes very light loads on the foundation. Ideal for for embankment of river, embankment dam, or reconstruct embankment.
Retaining Structure and Civil Construction
Placement of GeoFoam behind retaining
structure and below grade wall can offer advantages of reduced lateral
pressure, lower settlements, improved waterproofing, and better insulation.
Utility Protection
GeoFoam has been used as a structural foam above buried utilities such as rigid buried pipes to control loading caused by development of an induced trench condition.
Pavement Subgrade Fill and Insulation
The design of highway or airport pavements may be governed by subgrade stress/deformation criteria or frost protection (heaving) requirements.
Shallow Foundations
The use of GeoFoam allows construction of buildings with shallow foundations yet with frost protection.
Landscape Design
The use of GeoFoam expedites the design
and construction of decorative formations without adding weight.
