Pre-Expansion and Aging

EPS beads are drawn from storage and sent to the EPS pre-expander unit. The equipment in the photo swells the beads to almost 50 times their original size through the heating and resultant rapid release of the residual pentane gas from the beads.

Dyplast Products utilizes the latest equipment and computer control technologies to precisely balance the amount of beads, steam, agitation, and expansion required to produce the highest quality products. After the pressure equalization phase, the expanded beads are released into a bed dryer where all condensed steam moisture evaporates from the surface. This process typically takes takes less than 4 minutes.

Beads are subsequently aged, allowing the beads to fill back up with measured amounts of air. This may take 12-48 hours depending on the density desired.
